JanitorAI is a platform where users create, share, and interact with AI-powered characters. The platform hosts a large community-generated library of personas spanning a wide range of themes, allowing users to engage in dynamic, turn-based conversations with custom AI bots for roleplay, storytelling, and casual chat.
Character creation tools allow users to define a character's name, personality, scenario, initial message, avatar image, and up to 10 searchable tags. The personality field supports detailed backstory, behavioral rules, and dialogue examples, while the scenario field establishes the conversational context. The Character Bio box supports HTML formatting and can include links to galleries and creator resources.
The platform offers two content modes: Limited and Limitless. Limitless mode enables adult content for verified users, distinguishing JanitorAI from platforms that prohibit explicit material. NSFW on mobile must be enabled separately through profile settings on the website, in accordance with app store rules.
JanitorAI operates its own proprietary language model, JanitorLLM (JLLM), which is available free of charge. The platform also supports external AI model connections through proxy configurations, allowing users to link their own API keys from third-party providers for alternative response quality. A knowledge system for characters is in active development, enabling lore universes and persistent character memory.
The official app launched in public beta in February 2026 on both the App Store and Google Play. Creator analytics are available through a dedicated dashboard, providing data on impressions, clicks, chat views, and engagement metrics. Scripts allow creators to add logic to characters beyond prompt-based behavior. The platform reached 1.4 million daily active users as of March 2025.
